A Model Life trades some of the space-station concept trappings of the earlier records for songs about relationships and human connection, and Mitchell's writing has rarely been sharper. 'Digital God Machine' and 'Rain Kings' hit hard while 'Species In Transition' and the title track lean into the widescreen melodies he does better than almost anyone. If you want prog with proper hooks and real emotional weight, this one delivers.
