Spotlights
Going deeper than a shop listing. Artists, labels, and genres — written by a fan who actually listens to this music.
What are Spotlights?
Spotlights are the editorial side of Steel Valley Records — the part that isn't just a catalogue. Each page is written by Rob and covers what actually matters: where to start, why a band or label matters, and which records you need to own. These aren't press releases. They're the kind of thing you'd say to a friend who just asked "what should I listen to first?"
We cover three things: the artists who define the genre, the labels behind the records, and the genres themselves — with essential listening guides for anyone finding their way in.
Three Types of Spotlight
Artist Spotlights
Long-form pages on the artists who define AOR and Melodic Rock. Who they are, why they matter, where to start, and every album ranked.
Label Spotlights
The story behind the labels — Frontiers, Rock Candy, Pride & Joy — who runs them, what they stand for, and which records to buy first.
Genre Guides
Essential listening guides for AOR, Melodic Rock, Progressive Metal and more. The records you need, in the order you should hear them.
