Montrose were an American hard rock band formed in 1973 by guitarist Ronnie Montrose, whose self-titled debut helped shape the template for melodic, muscular American rock. Fronted originally by a young Sammy Hagar, the band went through several line-up changes across the 1970s before Ronnie Montrose eventually moved on to other projects. Their influence on subsequent hard rock and AOR acts remains widely acknowledged.
