About Marty Friedman
Marty Friedman is an American guitarist and musician best known for his work as the lead guitarist of the heavy metal band Megadeth from 1990 to 2000, and again from 2004 onwards. Born in 1962 in Palm Springs, California, Friedman developed a virtuosic playing style characterized by rapid alternate picking, sweep picking, and melodic sensibilities that distinguished him within the thrash metal genre. Before joining Megadeth, he performed with several acts including Cacophony, a speed metal duo with Jason Becker that earned critical recognition in the late 1980s.
During his tenure with Megadeth, Friedman contributed to several of the band's most acclaimed albums, helping establish himself as one of heavy metal's most technically accomplished guitarists. His compositions and playing became central to the band's sound during the 1990s. Following his initial departure from Megadeth in 2000, Friedman pursued a diverse career encompassing solo work, session recordings, television appearances, and collaborations across rock and other genres. He eventually rejoined Megadeth and has remained with the band since his return.
Beyond his work in heavy metal, Friedman has demonstrated versatility as a musician and personality, appearing on television programs and engaging with international audiences. He has maintained an active solo career alongside his work with Megadeth, releasing material that explores various musical directions. In 2024, Friedman released Drama through Frontiers Music S.r.l., continuing his output as a recording artist.
